Little Sunny is graduating from Dog Training Camp today! He has had a fun-filled 3 weeks with his trainer Jonathan, and now it’s time to go home to show his family what he’s learned.
When Sunny started camp, he was very unsure and startled by new things. Jonathan always kept a calm, relaxed energy when exposing Sunny to new experiences. By staying calm, Sunny knows just how to act when he isn’t sure. Jonathan’s energy flows right through the leash!
Sunny was very uncertain about cars and thought he needed to chase them to keep them away. To overcome this, Jonathan built up Sunny’s leash manners in an area with minimal distractions. As Sunny figured out how to walk loosely and follow commands, Jon introduced more distractions. By setting Sunny up to succeed each time, he was eventually able to get Sunny walking politely on a leash around passing cars. Notice in the video clip (below) that Jon stays totally relaxed the whole time. Building up the leash activity gave Sunny something else to think about instead of the cars, and eventually cars become background noise.
Sunny has come along nicely with his manners and had a lot of fun adventures with Jon: meeting other dogs, going new places, and meeting new people. We know he will now be able to put his best paw forward when he’s back home!
