Sebastian had a great time at the Durham Bulls game with trainer Jonathan! Going to the game was a big event for Sebastian. There were all kinds of new distractions, with different food smells, excited people, and loud noises. Jonathan remained calm and relaxed so Sebastian knew this was just another ordinary outing. There were times when Sebastian got a little overwhelmed by people carrying equipment or saw unfamiliar things, but Jonathan stayed calm and ignored his outbursts. Sebastian got lots of attention and reward when he calmed down, but not if he was barking. This helps him quickly see that calm behavior earns attention, but he gets nothing for over the top excitement. He got to watch the game and hang out in a crowd.
All in all, it was a great adventure for Sebastian and Jonathan! The more he goes new places, the more he sees new and exciting things as ordinary. Being able to take in all kinds of surroundings no matter what is going on is an important skill for a future service dog to have.
Sebastian is doing a wonderful job! What a good boy!!
