During our weekly trainer field trips, the dogs all practice their commands in public around new distractions. These leash drills build their self control and teach them that the same rules apply no matter where we go. They also help our dogs relax and prepare them to go inside dog friendly places like Phydeaux in Cary!
Dogs can hang out and be around each other without interacting. Our leadership builds trust because we protect their space instead of visa versa. Nlaka and Harley learn they can't use their size to push or pull their handler over to meet another dog. That makes fearful, anxious dogs like Luna and Lambeau feel safe and trust our leadership, knowing that we won't let anything happen to them. Lambeau got some practice being walked by people he didn’t know, and nothing bad happened! Athena got a chance to hang with the pack as well! All the dogs in the group have different personalities and behaviors they are working on, whether scared, anxious, reactive, overly protective, or wide open, leadership helps everyone!
Last week we had our field trip at Phydeaux. This week we are stepping it up and adding distractions with a trip to Waverly Place in Cary!
