Trainers and dogs took advantage of the beautiful weather today with a visit to Durham Central Park. This park was full of new distractions for the dogs to practice manners around. As with any trip to a new place, everyone always starts up walking circles and practicing commands to get the dog’s energy leveled and attention focused on their humans.
Current training camp dogs Bella, Maddie, and Charlie, along with Cooper who is back for Continuing Education, and trainer Jon’s dog Nala, all had a spectacular time! Walking through the park is one thing, but then trainers added on the challenge of canine parkour – getting all the dogs to jump rocks, benches, and slides! On the playground, they also practiced polite manners being petted by children. All four paws must stay on the ground and attention stops if any dog jumps! The pups were nice and relaxed, and ready to hang out with their trainers for the rest of the day.
Canine parkour is a great way to mentally and physically exercise a high energy dog! It is also wonderful for boosting an insecure dog’s confidence and thus improving the human/dog relationship. Anitra uses parkour to boost Bella’s confidence everywhere they go, which makes her super relaxed and happy to be around anybody! The best thing about it is you can incorporate canine parkour into any walk by using what’s around you!
Way to go everyone!
