Cooper and Zoltan joined Trainers Nick, Maureen, and Kersti for lunch at Moe’s. Zoltan got to practice his self control and manners in a new place, while Cooper relaxed around an unfamiliar dog. This was a bit of a challenge for both boys, but their trainers set them up to make it easy.
Before expecting both dogs to settle down right off the bat, Cooper and Zoltan warmed up by walking in circles with their trainers while practicing commands like sit, down, stay, and come. Working on commands gets them focusing on their handlers instead of all the distractions around them. By calling out different commands, Cooper and Zoltan have to pay attention to what’s next instead of looking for something to do. Doing this in new places also helps teach the dogs that the same rules apply no matter where they go or who is holding the leash. Once they were both nice and relaxed, it was time to grab lunch! Taking a few extra minutes to burn off some energy sets both dogs up to succeed!
Relaxed dogs make for an easy afternoon in public! Way to go Zoltan and Cooper!
