Yesterday was a perfect morning to take a hike at Umstead with dogs. Training Camp students Charlie, Maddie, Bella, and Nick’s dog Xander accompanied their trainers on Sal’s Branch Trail, a loop in Umstead Park, for an hour long adventure. Sometimes a walk through nature is all you need! All the dogs did great following their leaders and politely passing by other people on the trail. A few people stopped to say hello and the dogs got to practice being petted. Any person approaching is always an opportunity for the dogs to see they get tons of affection when their paws stay on the ground. Halfway through the hike, everyone took a break for water and Bella took a quick dip in the lake!
The best way to wrap up a morning hike is with ice cream of course! Nick, Jon, Anitra, and Kersti hung out in the shade at Fresh Local Ice Cream, enjoying a cool treat while the dogs rested. Charlie was totally relaxed! Bella got invited up onto the bench to get some chest scratches from Anitra. After the outing, Anitra and Kersti took Charlie and Bella to Panera Bread for a quick chance to settle again in public.
