Ruger can get overwhelmed by big distractions all around him and feels like he needs to be in control. To show him how to relax in new situations and around unfamiliar things, we start with the basics at home. Once he’s following rules and commands at home and in the neighborhood (low distraction) then we start going new places to gradually build the challenges for Ruger. The more places we go and show him exactly what he needs to be doing, the more normal it will be for him to look to his person to tell him what to do. For a super smart dog, knowing what the rules are is a huge relief! This way he doesn’t have to make them up on his own and feels much more confident in his people.
Don’t they look great!?
